that can significantly reduce the symptoms of anxiety and trauma. Anxiety
and trauma symptoms often originate in feelings of being unable to control
one's thoughts. Meditation helps strengthen a person's awareness of
what is going on in their mind and their ability to control it. This
is not an instant fix, but an exercise, the mastery of which takes time,
concentration, dedication and patience. The benefits can be substantial,
giving the practitioner a great sense of calm, peace, and serenity while
decreasing feelings of being out of control or "losing one's mind".

Research has also shown that Yoga and Tai Chi are effective in helping clients manage the symptoms which accompany trauma including: anxiety, fear, feelings of detachment from their bodies, exaggerated startle response, flashbacks and replays which you are unable to switch off, racing thoughts and feelings of being out of control. Both disciplines require a focus on deep, rhythmic breathing while be very mindful of body position and balance which derails and detracts from panicky and anxious feelings.
